According to a study published in April 2026, the human brain never truly forgets the rules of Earth’s gravity even after months in orbit. Researchers tracking astronauts on the International Space Station found that they consistently over grip objects because their brains continue to anticipate a downward pull that isn’t there. This internal gravity model causes the brain to treat the weightless environment as if objects have an inherent buoyancy that might cause them to drift away. Further supporting this, structural scans from early 2026 show that the brain physically shifts upward and backward within the skull during flight. While the brain does adjust its sensorimotor skills enough to function, these deep seated terrestrial expectations remain visible in how astronauts handle delicate equipment, proving that millions of years of evolution are not easily erased by a rocket launch.
